As I look back at our recent week of giving for United Way, I took a moment to reflect on the word “unity.” I think it can take on a few definitions, but at its core, it’s about working together, harmony, and the state of being one or in agreement.

Collaboration Improves Outcome

I participated in a capstone project several years ago where we focused on our company aspirations, one of which was unity over uniformity. Thinking about the evolution of our business and the growth we’ve experienced, I think this aspiration has played a big part in our success and make a significant difference in any team’s and business’s success.

The fact is our business relies on our entire team delivering results for our clients. One person cannot be a team and we will not reach our maximum potential until we experience the synergy of working together and being united.

Of course, there are always going to be times when team members go against the current and choose a different direction that’s out of alignment with the overall goal of the team. To help counteract this, we’ve focused on having a common vision centered around bringing value to our clients. It’s my opinion, but all of us sharing the same vision has greatly enhanced the deliverables for our clients and our connection with each other. As we grow, it becomes more challenging to maintain this alignment even though it’s more important than ever.

Better Together

So, why did this pop in my brain from United Way? When I started seeing the results from our week of giving, I realized when everyone pours into something, incredible things can happen. There’s not one person in our company who doesn’t get behind this charge – we’re all heading in the same direction and in alignment with a common goal.

When we work together, the financial impact can be incredible. But honestly, I feel we get as much benefit as the charity partners we’re able to support. Our employee base is united – working together, celebrating together, and giving together. We come away from this week a better place because of the intentional interactions we’ve created with our employees centered around volunteering for our communities and having fun along the way.

Proud to Give.Fully.

Collaboration may not solve all of the world’s problems overnight, but I do know that when people come together, good things happen. I want to extend a special thank you to United Way for being a leader in our community and to all of those who support their great mission. Our participation in United Way week is one of the reasons why we love what we do and who we do it with here at Holmes Murphy.
