Independent insurance broker’s exceptional growth in the city drives relocation to the vibrant, historic location

Due to the company’s exceptional growth, Holmes Murphy, one of the nation’s largest independent insurance brokerages, is excited to announce it will be moving into Grand Place as an anchor tenant.

Originally the bustling headquarters for the Kansas City Star newspaper, Grand Place is a full city block that is being reimagined into a vibrant, mixed-use destination featuring 225,000+ square-feet of office space, a European-style market, private clubroom with rooftop patio, and more.

“Grand Place matches the best-in-class environment we strive to have for our employees,” said Dan Keough, Holmes Murphy Chairman & CEO. “It has features that fit our Holmes Murphy culture, dynamics, and aesthetic vibe, and will accommodate our ever-growing Kansas City team into the future.”

As part of Holmes Murphy’s substantial growth, the company currently has two office locations in the city — 1828 Walnut Street (Corrigan Station) and 1816 Walnut Street. One location is for Holmes Murphy employees, and the other is for its subsidiary, Avant Specialty Benefits. This strategic investment aims to provide a more collaborative and unique space where the two teams can once again operate out of the same location, while also providing an innovative space for serving clients.

“We’re incredibly excited to move into Grand Place, as the newly, reimagined space will not only be an amazing place for our team to be able to do their best work, but also a great venue to connect, collaborate, and create greater engagement and entertainment opportunities with and for our clients,” said Nate Heying, Holmes Murphy Vice President and Kansas City Market Leader. “An added bonus is that the location — with all the amenities surrounding it — is an attractive space for talent looking for an exceptional environment to create a long-lasting career. It’s a win for Holmes Murphy and the city.“

Vince Bryant, founder of 3D Development adds, “We are very appreciative of and excited for the opportunity to build Holmes Murphy’s new Kansas City office at Grand Place. Holmes Murphy was the very first tenant at our Corrigan Station project in 2016 and has been an exceptional tenant and relationship for us. The opportunity to first attract Holmes Murphy from the surrounding suburban market to downtown with Corrigan Station and now the opportunity to help them expand and continue to grow their business and employment in Kansas City is a true success story, and we can’t wait to deliver the next best-of environment for their company to thrive at Grand Place.”

Construction on Holmes Murphy’s 25,551 square foot office space, which is nearly double their current size, is expected to start in May, with occupancy targeted for November.

CBRE and Aron Real Estate are the co-listing brokers for Grand Place. Holmes Murphy was represented by Newmark. Holmes Murphy will join other Grand Place tenants, including Tria Health, Office Revolution, Bishop-McCann and Ricochet Lounge. With Holmes Murphy’s addition, the overall project is 40% leased.
